Plus: Global Development Council Report

February 26, 2010--ACAMEC

To the Members of the Church on the Hill in the Valley of Love…

Bonjour from Lyon, France where the Global Development Council of the African Methodist Episcopal Church has just ended. We have been on the mountain with God. Preaching and Praise; Work and Dialogue have been the order of the day. What’s at stake? The future of our Church around the GLOBE!  Our own – Bishop Sarah Frances Davis – has presided with distinction. The Lord’s name is to be praised! The Nouvelle Alliance (French for New Alliance) African Methodist Episcopal Church – the first and only AME Church in France – has hosted us beyond our expectations. As you know, I am privileged to serve as the Vice Chair of the Global Development Commission of the General Board which is responsible for engaging the work of expansion around the world. Yesterday, I made Anderson Chapel’s mission report on our work in Kenya. Needless to say, the bishops, the general officers, the Connectional Lay President and the constituency from the GDC were most pleased. The senior bishop – John R. Bryant – applauded our report and commended the congregation for being mission-minded.

Speaking of being a mission-oriented congregation…

This coming Sunday we will continue the work of gathering the Mission Surveys from the congregation. As you know, I am now in the final (project) phase of the Doctor of Ministry degree at Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey. It has been a long journey but the end (May 2011) is in sight). The final or project phase is the signal portion of the work. The final project looks at some aspect of the candidates own ministry setting. Together with the Lay Advisory Committee (LAC) (which consists of Mrs. Alice Douse, Mr. Raymond Felton, Dr. Floristine Gray, Mr. Kenneth Roberts, Mr. Johnny Owens, Mr. Raymond Pearcey, Mrs. Martha Walker, Mrs. Cathy Wilson), the candidate (that’s me) seeks to uncover and learn more about what God is doing in their own setting. Our project thesis is: Re-envisioning the mission and vision of Anderson Chapel A.M.E. Church. As we seek to look at not only what we do, we are also seeking to understand how to do it better as well as how to communicate it better. I really need every member’s help in this process.

I need you to do three (3) things:

1.     Take a short survey either in person or on our website. The LAC will be available for the next few Sundays in the Fellowship Hall immediately after the morning worship to assist you with a Consent Form and/or the survey. PLEASE NOTE: that if you take the short survey online, you will still NEED to complete a Consent Form with the LAC.

2.     Beginning in April, take a Missionality Profile Assessment similar to the Spiritual Gift/Personality Profile Assessment. Dates and times will be announced.

3.     At the end of the project – late May – take the survey again.

That’s all! Will you help us take an honest look at our work? You will help yourself by understanding better why and for what level of mission and ministry God designed you for and why God called you to be a part of this mission-oriented congregation. I thank you in advance.

There is one more thing I need you to do for me.  Will you pray for me now as I stand to preach in a few hours for the first time in the country of France!  Yes, at the invitation of Bishop Sarah Davis and Pastors Jean Paul and Nene Basunga, I have been invited to bring the word tonight. The bishops have already laid hands upon me. The saints here are praying. But, I need the prayers of my AC family. I need the prayers of the family of God known as the Church on the Hill in the Valley of Love.

Don’t forget this coming Sunday, Part 2 of Lead Us Not Into Temptation!  Hope to see you then.

Bonsoir!
