Special Word on the Tragedy at Fort Hood
To the hundreds of wonderful people around the world who share in my daily cyberspace ministry…
As you now know, yesterday, November 5, 2009, a tragic loss of innocent lives occurred on the military installation known as Fort Hood in the Killeen area. Our souls anguish with deep agony and grief for the families of the twelve (12) victims who were randomly shot and killed. Our hearts petition heaven to comfort and strengthen them during this hour. We continue to intercede for healing for the thirty-one (31) persons who were also hit by vicious and unexpected bullets. Why did this loss of life occur? What was the reason for this vicious and apparently unprovoked attack on human life? While we may never know the answer to those questions, we do know that God is present and more than willing to help aid those who hurt in their time of need.
The prophet Jeremiah too, was deeply grieved with the loss experienced by the people of his beloved Jerusalem. I weep for the hurt of my people. I am stunned and silent, mute with grief. Is there no medicine in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why is there no healing for the wounds of my people? Jeremiah 8:21-22 NLT But there is an answer to that question. There is a “balm in Gilead:” a healing salve to soothe the grieving broken heart. The Lord Jesus is the Great Shepherd who is willing to lead us through these difficult and dark times. The Lord Jesus is the Great Physician who is willing to heal both broken bodies and broken hearts.
I am calling upon my daily readership to pray for the families of the victims who both lost their lives and who were injured. I am calling upon my daily readership, no matter what your faith or belief, to pray for the healing of those who were injured and are now receiving medical care. I am calling upon my daily readership to pray for the beloved men and women, both military and civilian, who enter Fort Hood to work. I am calling upon my daily readership to pray for the civil, military and especially spiritual leadership of this city to help foster a spirit of peace and true understanding among all cultures. I believe that our prayers will make a difference and help to bring peace to this city and indeed to this nation and world in times like these. Today, the sanctuary of our church will be open from 12 noon – 5:00 p.m. for prayer. Everyone is welcome to stop by and share in a moment of prayer. There will also be a special One Hour of corporate Intercessory prayer time from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church.
I believe that the Lord will answer our prayers and help us. Why do I believe this? Because of a prophetic promise from an ancient prophet who declared: Violence will disappear from your land; the desolation and destruction of war will end. Salvation will surround you like city walls, and praise will be on the lips of all who enter there.
Isaiah 60:18 NLT
From my heart, I believe that together, we can help to usher in that promise!
